We do this by being knowlegeable on our market, having a process that guides home buyers and sellers, and genuinely connecting with our clients to help them with their move. Stark History

1908: Presbyterian Minister Albert C. Stark co-founds Stark-McLane Land Co. to sell land in the Dakotas. His son, 23-year-old Paul E. Stark, succeeds an ill Mr. McLane and the company changes its name to Stark Land Co.

1910: Stark Land Co. begins selling real estate in Madison.

1916: Paul Stark helps organize the Madison Real Estate Board and becomes President of what is now the Realtors Assoc. of South Central Wisconsin (RASCW).

1919: Paul Stark co-founds the Anchor Building and Loan Assoc., today called Anchor Bank, to ease the frustration of securing a mortgage.

1921: As it is no longer just a land company, the company name is officially changed to The Paul E. Stark Co.

1926: The first office building is built, marking a first for a Madison Realtor.

1945: Following Paul Stark’s passing at age 61, longtime employee Walter Schar becomes General Manager. Around this same time, Paul’s two sons, Phillip and Richard, return home from their World War II military service.

1948: Phillip Stark joins the company with a distinguished infantry record and a B.B.A. in real estate from the University of Wisconsin, graduating from the very program his father, Paul Stark, helped create.

1965: Walter Schar passes away and Phillip Stark becomes President.

1977: The first branch office, Madison West, opens with a new building soon following.

1978: Phillip's son, David Stark, joins the firm as a Sales Associate. The East Office opens and a new building is constructed.

1989: Phillip Stark retires and David Stark becomes President. In the same year, the company buys the real estate brokerage business from Anchor Savings and Loan Assoc., doubling the size of the firm and adding two branches.

1992: David Stark becomes one of five founding members of a partnership group owning Preferred Title. Later that year, the group again partners to create Universal Home Protection.
